JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Azure Systems Engineer

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting FTE Azure Systems Engineer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities:

Administer and optimize Azure Government environments, includingpute, identity, networking, storage, and PaaS services

Design, implement, and maintain secure Azure configurations supporting HPC clusters, AI workflows, and research workloads inpliance with organizational and regulatory requirements

Support and integrate Azure CycleCloud Workspace for Slurm for orchestration, scaling, and management of HPC workloads

Manage diverse storage solutions (e.g., Blob/File, NetApp, Managed Lustre, etc.), ensuring appropriate performance, cost optimization, andpliance with data retention policies

Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) templates and automation scripts in thepany repository (e.g., using Bicep, Terraform, Ansible) for consistent environment deployment and management.

Partner with DevOps teams to support application deployments and platform services

Oversee identity and access management through Entra ID and role-based access control (RBAC) aligned to least-privilege principles

Implement and maintain security controls including network segmentation, encryption, monitoring, andpliance reporting consistent with organizational governance requirements

Collaborating with Infrastructure Architecture, IT Operations, and Engineering teams to support controlled environments hosting qualified scientific and engineering software

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance or availability issues acrosspute and storage services

Support escalation management, ensuring critical orpliance-sensitive issues are promptly routed and tracked to resolution

Generate reports on performance, identifying areas for process improvement andmunicating trends to leadership.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience managing Azure environments

Direct experience working with Azure Government (Azure Gov) services and associatedpliance boundaries

Proficiency with Azure HPC and workload integration

Strong knowledge of Azure storage solutions, performance tuning, and cost management

Experience implementing and managing security andpliance controls within Azure environments

Familiarity with identity management, AAD, and RBAC administration

Strong scripting or automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Ansible or Terraform)

Excellent problem-solving, documentation, andmunication skills

Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment supporting multiple concurrent projects and business priorities

Remain current with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Nice to Have:

Experience in regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, energy, aerospace, or federal contracting)

Understanding of ITIL service management best practices.

Travel Required: 0-10%.

Salary Range: $117,922 - $176,833 (Pay rates are approved based on candidate location, education and experience)
