Software Development Engineer II - Full Stack

The Full Stack Software Development Engineer II role is part of the VR Differentiators team, which is a key part of our Multi-Channel Shopping organization. Our team owns and operates a critical Tier-1 application written in Kotlin with GraphQL queries that powers shopping experiences for Vacation Rentals (VR). In addition this team is the go-to set of experts for VR shopping experiences across multiple brands (i.e Vrbo, Expedia, etc). In this role, you will play an integral part in delivering key enhancements and solutions which will directly impact the customer shopping experience and will see your changes live on our website in front of potentially millions of customers. In addition we allow for growth and learning in our team across new skillsets since we deliver across Web, iOS and Android platforms to build unique experiences for all of our customer no matter what device they visit us from.

In this role, you will:

  • Full Stack Development in an Agile Environment: Collaborate across disciplinespartnering with front-end, backend, and SREsto shape the architecture and elevate the technical foundation of a large-scale Node.js application serving millions of users. Focus on code quality and overall platform improvement for this customer-critical system.

  • Quality and Performance Champion: Establish and enforce engineering best practices for testing, CI/CD, and observability. Proactively address system bottlenecks, technical debt, and performance issues while improving UI stability and test coverage.

  • Observability and Reliability: Implement tracing, monitoring, and alerting systems to ensure application uptime, facilitate issue diagnosis, and drive performance improvements through data-driven analysis and solutions.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with diverse shopping teams and AWS specialists across multiple time zones to design cost-efficient infrastructure and optimize resources, ensuring seamless integration of global e-commerce solutions.

  • Testing: Design and execute test plansincluding advanced functional, performance, and security testingto ensure high code quality.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Years of Experience : 2+ years of software development experience building scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant solutions with specialization in front-end software development.

  • Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Front-End Proficiency: proficient in modern CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and frameworks such as ReactJS; experience with mobile-first Progressive Web Apps (PWA) is a plus.

  • APIs : Experience with GraphQL or building high-efficiency services is a strong plus.

  • Version Control : Comfortable using Git or similar version control system

  • Back-End Proficiency : Experienced in API development and proficiency with OO languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Python to build scalable and reliable services.

  • Cloud Technology: Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and have worked in a CI/CD environment.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individuals knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
