Business Development & Technology Manager Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide. We are seeking a Business Development & Technology Manager in our Columbus, Ohio location. The Business Development & Technology Manager will serve as a dual-function leader, combining deep technical expertise in refractory applications with strategic business development capabilities. This role is responsible for identifying and executing growth opportunities while also supporting customers with advanced technical solutions, ensuring alignment between innovation, market needs, and operational excellence. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Business Development (average 40-60%)
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to align technical capabilities with customer needs.
  • Segment markets and customers to optimize pricing, service levels, and product positioning.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade associations.
  • Support the development of business cases for investment in new technologies or markets.
  • Monitor competitive landscape and provide insights to guide strategic planning.
Application Engineering (average 40-60%)
  • Analyze customer operations and process data to develop tailored refractory solutions.
  • Collaborate with design engineering teams on capital projects and new installations.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting, audits, and on-site support for customer operations.
  • Conduct product trials, evaluate performance, and document findings.
  • Deliver technical training and seminars for internal teams and customers.
  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to corporate literature and case studies.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to inform product development.
  • Obtain and analyze relevant operational and process data to inform refractory solutions.
  • Create and review case studies and related corporate literature.
  • Maintain industry presence in relevant trade organizations.
  • As part of a team work to keep up to date on technical knowledge within each of Allieds existing and new application areas and assist in updating company publications. Always striving to strengthen Allieds technical knowledge base of targeted customer industries.
  • Support Allieds sales organization and customers around the world. Occasional travel to US or international locations likely will be required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in refractory applications, industrial materials, or related industries.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally between technical and commercial teams.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience with customer-facing roles and technical sales support.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of refractory materials and properties beneficial.
  • Results driven individual with strong communication skills who desires to engage effectively and collaboratively across the organization to drive the best outcomes and achieve business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate, organize, and lead in multi-functional team and to foster a proactive team environment.
  • Experience in both applied application development and market strategy preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital tools for project tracking, costing, and CRM.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and lifecycle analysis.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior staff.
Working Environment:
  • Combination of office and factory environments.
  • Work environment may be dusty, hot, or cold depending on customer jobsite conditions.
  • Required to follow Allied Mineral Products Safety & Health policy and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate.
