About the Team and the Role

We are the Buyer Destination team, part of the Core Buyer Experience engineering organization at eBay. Our team is at the forefront of developing the Discovery Platforma next-generation system designed to power highly personalized, feed-based, and curate-able content experiences across eBays discovery shopping surfaces.

This initiative will redefine the Buyer Destination experience and serve as a foundational capability across all Core Buyer teams. We are currently seeking skilled backend engineers to join our Shopping Surfaces team. In this role, youll work closely with senior leads and architects to build and enhance engaging, scalable user experiencespushing the boundaries of innovation and excellence on eBays core shopping surfaces.

What You Will Accomplish
  • Translate business requirements into software designs and deliver high-quality, efficient, and scalable code
  • Take deep ownership of a significant functional domain, demonstrating technical expertise and accountability
  • Influence and drive technical decision-making across domain and partner teams
  • Identify and promote productivity improvements that enhance overall team efficiency
  • Design systems with adaptability in mind to support evolving requirements and improve engineering velocity
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to build impactful, customer-centric solutions
What You Will Bring
  • Proficiency in Java and/or Scala/Kotlin, with a strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture
  • Skilled in developing and consuming RESTful APIs and GraphQL services
  • Familiarity with Node.js (a strong plus)
  • Experience building and maintaining Kafka or other queue-based messaging systems (a plus)
  • Solid foundation in object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SDLC best practices
  • Strong programming discipline focused on writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code
  • Experience working within agile methodologies, such as Scrum
Experience & Education
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science with 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • (OR)
  • Masters degree in Computer Science with 3+ years of software engineering experience

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$95,200 - $168,700

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
