Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nations defense against ballistic missile attacks.
The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.
The Work
The Software Engineer responsibilities include software development and support of the GMD Fire Controls (GFC) suite of products within the Missile Defense Agencys (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense Weapon System (GWS) program. You will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features of the GFC system, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross-functional agile scrum team. The selected individual will support the GFC product development out of Colorado Springs, CO and will primarily be working within the support layer between the front-end and back-end of the GFC product.
In general, the Software Engineer:
Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product software.
Collaborates with other software and systems engineers to determine computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions.
Ensures software standards are met.
Essential Functions:
Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment.
Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction.
Apply "systems thinking" to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs.
Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives.
The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.
Due to the nature of the role, this is not being offered as a teleworking or hybrid position.

Recent and extensive experience developing software in Ada, C++ or Java
Willingness to become highly proficient with Ada software development
Practical experience with Software Design.
Recent experience with version control software and Atlassian tools. i.e. Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence and Jenkins.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance. Experience with Missile Defense Agency systems.
Understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery.
Experience working in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment.
Experience programming in GNAT Programming Studio and Visual Studio Code.
Familiarity with Agile software development practices, Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), and Scaled Agile Framework
2+ years of experience with C++
Ability to maintain and upgrade existing application developed using Ada within a large code base.
Familiarity with CORBA and ACE / TAO or ORBexpress.
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and government customer personnel.
Experience analyzing complex problems and developing solutions based on limited direction and definition.
Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project goals.
