What you'll be doing

As a Consultant, Backend Developer on the Core Banking and Payments Technology team, you'll play a key role in building and maintaining the systems that power CIBCs banking and payments platforms. Youll leverage your expertise in Objective C, Xcode, Android SDK, Swift, and web services to develop robust backend solutions that support seamless client experiences. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, youll ensure applications are scalable, secure, and efficient. Your responsibilities include troubleshooting complex technical issues, optimizing system performance, and participating in code reviews. Youll also mentor junior developers, share best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our backend architecture. Your work will directly impact the reliability and innovation of CIBCs core banking operations.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Backend Application Development: Design, develop, and maintain backend systems using Objective C, Xcode, Android SDK, Swift, and web services.

  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Partner with business stakeholders, project managers, and fellow developers to deliver scalable and secure solutions.

  • Code Quality & Testing: Conduct code reviews, write unit tests and UI automation tests to ensure reliability and maintainability.

  • System Optimization: Identify and implement opportunities to enhance system performance and efficiency.

  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing Provide guidance to junior developers and foster a culture of learning and technical excellence.

Who you are

  • You have extensive backend development experience. You bring 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java, spring boots, DevOps, CI/DI, Objective C, Xcode, Android SDK, Swift, Web Services, XML, Subversion, and GIT.

  • Youre skilled in modern development practices. Its an asset if you are fluent in Object Oriented Design, JSON, RESTful web services, and have written unit and UI automation tests.

  • You have strong educational credentials . You have a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Business, or a related field.

  • You thrive in collaborative environments . You enjoy working with cross-functional teams and contributing to collective success.

  • Youre committed to continuous learning . You stay current with emerging technologies and are eager to expand your technical skillset.
