Image Generation & Visual Systems Engineer
Job Description
The Image Generation & Visual Systems Engineer designs, develops, integrates, and sustains advanced realtime visual and image generation systems used in highfidelity simulator and training environments. This role focuses on building and optimizing image generation pipelines, integrating visual systems with simulation architectures, managing entities within virtual environments, and supporting immersive display technologies such as headmounted displays for realistic training experiences.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and integrate realtime Image Generation (IG) and Visual Systems for simulator and training environments.
- Implement and support Common Image Generator Interface (CIGI) and related image generation protocols to ensure reliable communication between host simulators and visual systems.
- Develop and maintain software that supports entity creation, manipulation, and control within simulation environments.
- Integrate visual systems with upstream simulation components, including host simulators and distributed simulation frameworks.
- Support integration and optimization of headmounted displays (HMDs) for immersive simulation and training use cases.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance, latency, and rendering issues in realtime visual systems to maintain visual fidelity and responsiveness.
- Collaborate closely with systems, software, and integration teams to ensure visual fidelity, realtime performance, and interface requirements are met.
- Support system testing, validation, and documentation activities required for simulator certification and customer acceptance.
- Participate in domestic and international travel as required to support onsite integration, testing, and customer events.
- Support extended or modified work schedules as needed to meet critical program milestones and delivery timelines.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of professional experience supporting Image Generation (IG) and Visual Systems in simulation or training environments.
- Handson experience with CIGI (Common Image Generator Interface) and image generation communication protocols.
- Proven experience implementing or supporting entity management and manipulation within simulation environments.
- Experience supporting realtime rendering and performancecritical visual systems.
- Experience integrating or supporting headmounted displays (HMDs) in simulation or training applications.
- Proficiency in C++ or other performancefocused programming languages used in realtime simulation.
- Strong understanding of realtime simulation architectures and visual system interfaces.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with flight simulators or helicopter simulators.
- Experience with HTC Vive or similar highend HMDs such as XRclass devices.
- Experience working with or integrating commercial or defense image generation solutions such as Acheron, Medallion, Collins Aerospace visual systems, or Vital image generation systems.
- Experience with terrain databases, visual models, sensor simulation, or outthewindow rendering.
- Familiarity with distributed or interoperable simulation environments and related standards.
Work Environment
This role operates within highfidelity simulator and training environments that rely on advanced realtime visual and image generation technologies. You will work with performancecritical C++ code, image generation pipelines, and commercial or defense visual systems such as Acheron, Medallion, Collins Aerospace visual systems, and Vital image generation systems, as well as highend headmounted displays including devices like HTC Vive and similar XRclass HMDs. The position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary systems, software, and integration teams, both in office and labbased simulator settings. Occasional domestic and international travel is required to support integration and test events at customer or partner sites, and extended or modified work schedules may be necessary during key program milestones and certification activities. The environment emphasizes technical excellence, reliability, and visual fidelity to support missioncritical training outcomes.
