Network Engineer I

Kforce is seeking a Network Engineer I for a 6-month contract opportunity in Leawood, KS. This role will support multiple large-scale infrastructure deployment initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine foundational networking knowledge with strong organizational and coordination skills, contributing to project execution.

Responsibilities:Wireless Deployment & Project Support:

  • Support large-scale wireless AP installation across 75+ locations
  • Review survey information to generate site specific SOWs
  • Build and configure locations within the Meraki dashboard
  • Assist with basic switch configurations and network setup tasks
  • Coordinate hardware shipment logistics (packing, labeling, tracking, receiving)
  • Track deployment progress and maintain accurate records of site completion
  • Partner with project managers and internal teams to meet deployment timelines
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior network engineers

Firewall Refresh & Project Support:

  • Support the firewall refresh deployment at 100 locations
  • Configure FortiGate firewalls utilizing existing processes and scripts
  • Coordinate hardware shipment logistics (packing, labeling, tracking, receiving)
  • Assist in confirmation tasks related to the installation of new firewalls
  • Assist in troubleshooting network issues, identifying root causes, and escalating when needed
  • Track deployment progress and maintain accurate records of site completion
  • Partner with project managers and internal teams to meet deployment timelines
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior network engineers

Administrative & Coordination Support:

  • Maintain detailed documentation of network environments and deployment activities
  • Track weekly progress metrics
  • Manage multiple workstreams across multiple deployments
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1-2 years of IT support, help desk, or networking experience
  • Experience or exposure to Cisco and/or Fortinet networking equipment
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, switching, routing, wireless)
  • Basic knowledge of voice and data networking protocols
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and follow structured processes
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • High level of customer service and professionalism

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Network+, Security+, CCNA (or higher), or Fortinet NSE4+
  • Experience working with Meraki or similar cloud-managed networking platforms
  • Familiarity with physical cabling standards and troubleshooting
  • Exposure to infrastructure deployments or multi-site rollouts
