(2) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL), located at the University of Hawaii, Manoa Innovation Center, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $9,133 - $13,133/Mon.

DUTIES: Prototypes, validates, tests, and deploys embedded systems in support of sponsor requirements. Integrates commercial-off-the-shelf and custom-built components to yield tools and capabilities that benefit multiple projects. Leads testing and evaluation in multiple environments (e.g., bench testing, field exercises). Disseminates findings consistent with individual project goals as well as from a systems-level perspective. Develops and enhances data analysis and visualization tools for embedded systems in support of customer requirements. Oversees technical project personnel, mentors ARL students, and spearheads both written report generation and technical presentation development. Relevant stakeholders include Department of Defense and State of Hawaii personnel plus private industry partners. Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art innovations in embedded systems, tests and evaluates the performance of new systems relevant to ARL efforts, and disseminates findings to Federal, State of Hawaii, academic, and private industry stakeholders. Performs other tasks to enhance ARL's partnership with the Naval Research Enterprise and the State of Hawaii to increase environmental understanding and situational awareness.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Electrical, Mechanical or Software Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) field.

EXPERIENCE: Five to seven (5-7) years demonstrated work experience developing and implementing mechanical, electrical, or software systems. Experience must include at least two (2) years demonstrated experience developing embedded systems of various types of uncrewed vehicles and platforms (i.e., buoys, terrestrial sensor platforms, uncrewed surface vehicles, uncrewed underwater vehicles, uncrewed aerial vehicles) and testing performance via field programs. Experience collaborating with multiple customers to determine a common solution.

KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical and software engineering (including firmware and host interface). Knowledge and experience with analysis and design of electronic components and systems including electronic design automation software (e.g., KiCAD) and Linux environments and utilities (e.g., bash, make, awk, sed, grep, vi). Proficiency with software (C/C++, Python). Understanding of common I/O protocols (e.g. I2C, UART, SPI, CAN, USB) including implementation. Knowledge of system planning; subsystem and interface identification; design selection, implementation, and verification.

ABILITIES & SKILLS: Must be a U.S. Citizen, a requirement of the Government security investigation to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate ARL objectives related to embedded systems and environmental awareness. Ability to conduct research, development, testing, and evaluation of embedded systems. Ability to analyze quantitative data. Ability to communicate project progress and results in writing and verbally. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted. Must be able to participate in field experimentation, which includes lifting and carrying equipment at least one hundred (100) yards for operations on test ranges.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical, Mechanical or Software. Relevant experience implementing embedded systems in Hawaii's environments. Relevant experience with federal, state and private industry working with embedded systems. Demonstrated ability to mentor University students.
