Software Engineering Manager - Direct Hire A global leader in personal protection is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join their team. This position is software-first in focus and combines people leadership with hands-on technical guidance in the development of embedded firmware, mobile applications, and PC-based software. Pay Rate of the Software Engineering Manager: Up to $185k Responsibilities of the Software Engineering Manager: Build, lead, and scale the software engineering organization, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management. Set technical direction for embedded and application software development. Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and design oversight. Establish and enforce software engineering standards and best practices. Drive transition from outsourced development to internal teams. Serve as the main interface for software subcontractors and external partners. Plan, estimate, and track software development activities to meet cost, schedule, and performance commitments. Support bids and proposals, including cost estimates and technical writing. Ensure compliance with quality management and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional groups to achieve company goals. Qualifications of the Software Engineering Manager: B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field is required (M.S. preferred). 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with an emphasis on new product development. Strong understanding of embedded software and firmware development practices. Experience with C/C++ for real-time embedded development. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop software engineering teams. Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC), configuration management, and issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira, DOORS). Ability to read schematics and hardware datasheets. 2-5 years of experience in engineering leadership or technical supervision is preferred. Experience building or scaling a software engineering team is preferred. Experience supporting military or other regulated programs is a plus. Experience with embedded or real-time systems is a plus.
