Learn more about working at Avive: About the Role: This position is for a Senior Firmware Engineer in Avive’s R&D organization with proven experience architecting, implementing, testing and debugging embedded firmware from concept through volume production. This role’s focus will on designing embedded systems with associated digital and analog peripherals, serial data communication, and wireless communication. This role will have active participation and in system integration, testing, and debugging of electronics PCBA level hardware. What You'll Do:
- Design, code, unit test, and debug applications in various software languages including C and C++
programming for embedded Linux and/or RTOS - Integrate firmware with embedded systems. Work with microcontrollers (e.g. ARM), digital signal processors,
and peripheral communication over SPI, I2C, UART, I2S, Single Wire Interfaces, I/O, and USB - Work with wireless communication technologies including BLE, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Cellular
- Experience reading PCB schematics, using basic EE laboratory equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, multimeters,
power supplies), and system debugging of electronics hardware and firmware systems - Conduct code reviews, apply metrics for code quality, use secure coding standards, and participate in software
verification activities - Demonstrate solid understanding of UML, Systems Thinking and state of the art software development
practices - Deliver design documentation, flowcharts, diagrams, code comments and clear testable codeExperience integrating firmware with embedded systems; familiarity with microcontrollers (e.g. ARM), digital signal processors, configuring peripherals, and drivers for IC’s
- Recommend, solicit, and provision COTS software through company approved supplier management
- Assist in software verification and quality assurance procedure development with the ability to effectively articulate perspectives orally & in writing
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent combination of relevant coursework and job-related experience.
- 1-3+ years of experience
- Proven work experience in firmware engineering using C and/or C++, embedded linux, RTOS, or bare metal
- Experience working with ARM processors
- Experience working with Git and Jira
- Experience in PCB board bring-up and use of basic EE laboratory equipment like logic analyzer or
oscilloscope - Experience with test-driven development, Agile with Scrum
- Preferred – scripting using Python and Bash
- Preferred – experience using Buildroot/Yocto for embedded Linux or Zephyr RTOS
