GovCIO is currently hiring for a Junior Systems Engineer (MFD Specialist) to support critical enterprise printing, imaging, and infrastructure activities across the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). This position will be located in Alexandria, VA, and will be a hybrid position.
Responsibilities: As a Junior Systems Engineer / Multi-Functional Device (MFD) Specialist, you will support the systems engineering and equipment lifecycle across enterprise print infrastructure. Key responsibilities include:- Resolve Incidents and Service Requests related to MFDs and printers to guarantee strict adherence to Service Level Objectives.
- Develop and publish comprehensive technical user guides as new printer models are delivered to operational units from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
- Maintain the Authorized Hardware List (AHL) to accurately track newly deployed floor, desktop, wide-format printers, and scanners.
- Execute quarterly DLA inventory validations and data corrections to ensure unit names and Points of Contact remain accurate.
- Manage and maintain the Unit Resource Manager (URM) database, engineering vital data exports for CG-C5I and CG-8 leadership.
- Author and update Knowledge Base, engineering documentation, and FAQ entries to ensure technical repositories reflect current systems.
- Track and report Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) compliance levels for all U.S. Coast Guard print assets to DHS.
- Compile and analyze hardware lease data to generate the required quarterly lease reports for DHS Headquarters. Monitor and manage the central MFD Shared Mailbox to provide timely, technical procurement guidance to unit personnel.
High School with 3 - 6 years (or commensurate experience)
Required Skills & Experience
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, CySA+, etc.) active and in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant hardware (MFD/Printer/Scanner) experience.
- Basic understanding of system engineering processes, requirements analysis, configuration management, and systems architecture concepts.
- Foundational experience supporting infrastructure systems such as Windows/Linux servers, virtualized environments, storage systems, and networking fundamentals.
- Exposure to cybersecurity concepts, security controls, and compliance standards within federal environments.
- Ability to document procedures, follow engineering guidance, and collaborate in technical discussions.
- Familiarity with automation or scripting tools (PowerShell, Bash, etc.) preferred.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a fast paced, mission critical environment.
Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programs.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments (Azure/AWS), enterprise architecture, or IT modernization initiatives.
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code, configuration automation, or low code platforms.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and technical growth.
