s: System s Support Specialist Job ID: 802021 Employment Type: Contract Location: 202 North 9th Street Richmond, VA 23219 Ideal Candidate Profile: We are seeking a highly skilled System s Support Specialist to support a secure, stable, and high-performing hybrid IT environment. This role is responsible for administering servers, identity system s, and enterprise services across on-premises and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical professional with strong experience in infrastructure operations, patch management, monitoring, backup, and system maintenance while following structured operational and security processes. Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Administration
  • Administer and support Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP services.
  • Support Microsoft 365 technologies including Exchange Online and Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Maintain system availability, performance, and configuration standards.
  • Perform routine server administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
Patch Management & Vulnerability Remediation
  • Execute structured server and infrastructure patching activities.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and communicate system impact with leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support vulnerability remediation initiatives aligned with security priorities.
  • Validate and test patches before deployment into production environments.
  • Track and maintain patch compliance documentation and reporting.
Security & Compliance Support
  • Implement infrastructure security controls defined by the Information Security Office.
  • Support identity and access management processes including MFA and access controls.
  • Assist with system hardening, logging, monitoring, and security integrations.
  • Participate in audit readiness and compliance support activities.
Monitoring & Incident Response
  • Monitor enterprise system s and respond to operational alerts and incidents.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 infrastructure support and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in incident response, escalation management, and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
  • Administer backup and recovery solutions for enterprise system s.
  • Perform backup validation and restore testing activities.
  • Support disaster recovery objectives including RTO and RPO requirements.
Change Management & Operations
  • Follow established change management and operational governance processes.
  • Execute infrastructure changes in a controlled and documented manner.
  • Participate in CAB meetings and operational reviews as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Network Engineering teams on infrastructure dependencies and connectivity issues.
  • Coordinate with End User Services regarding user-impacting changes and support activities.
  • Support Application and Data teams with system integrations and operational support.
  • Communicate system status, risks, and operational issues to leadership teams.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Entra ID/Azure AD.
  • Experience with patch management, vulnerability remediation, and system maintenance.
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and infrastructure dependencies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in government or regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments (on-premises and Azure).
  • Familiarity with NIST or similar security/compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Exposure to monitoring, SIEM, or endpoint management tools.
