Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly independent, self-driven Techno Functional Data Product Owner to lead client onboarding data requirements within Wealth Management. This role focuses on participant and investor data (e.g., name, address, SSN, tax identifiers) and requires strong hands-on data analysis, a solid understanding of business processes, and the ability to translate requirements into implementation-ready technical deliverables with minimal supervision.
The role owns outcomes end to end and partners closely with business, compliance, and engineering teams to deliver secure, high-quality onboarding data products.
Key Responsibilities
Techno Functional Ownership & Independence
Own onboarding data requirements end to end with minimal oversight
Drive requirement discovery, analysis, documentation, and backlog readiness independently
Proactively identify risks, gaps, and dependencies
Own delivery outcomes, not just documentation
Requirement Elicitation & Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with business, compliance, operations, and capability teams to gather onboarding requirements
Lead discussions on what participant data is collected, how it is captured, and why it is required
Document and validate requirements, assumptions, and decisions
Data Analysis & Documentation
Analyze source systems, data contracts, Kafka topics, APIs, and files
Identify gaps, overlaps, and reuse opportunities
Produce and maintain onboarding data artifacts, including BRDs, attribute grids, Kafka/API expectations, and data flow documentation
Partner with Data Governance and SOR teams to validate sources, lineage, ownership, and PII classification
Jira, Backlog & Agile Delivery
Act as Product Owner for Agile delivery squads
Decompose requirements into epics, features, and technical Jira stories with clear acceptance criteria
Define data inputs/outputs, Kafka or API behavior, schema expectations, and data quality rules
Own backlog prioritization, refinement, and sprint readiness
Deliver implementation-ready Jira artifacts enabling engineering teams to build with minimal clarification
Kafka, API & Integration Ownership
Define onboarding data delivery patterns using Kafka and REST or async APIs
Partner with architecture and platform teams on topic strategy, schemas, retention, replay, and API contracts
Ensure integrations are scalable, reusable, and aligned with enterprise data standards
Governance, Risk & Compliance Alignment
Ensure compliance with KYC, AML, privacy, and regulatory requirements
Embed data quality, metadata, lineage, and security controls
Support auditability and traceability of onboarding data flows
Data Contracts & Documentation
Own data contracts, including canonical definitions, schema design, conditional logic, and versioning
Maintain accurate BRDs and Data Intake documentation
PII, Privacy & Governance
Ensure secure handling of PII in line with regulatory and privacy standards
Apply best practices in data classification, masking, access control, and auditability
AI Usage & Enablement
Use AI tools responsibly to improve requirement quality and data analysis
Apply sound judgment when working with regulated and sensitive data
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years of Financial Services experience, preferably in Wealth Management onboarding
Proven techno-functional background bridging business, data, and technology
Strong hands-on data analysis at field and attribute levels
Ability to write clear, technical, implementation-ready Jira stories
Strong understanding of PII and regulatory requirements
Self-starter capable of operating independently
