- Design and implement data ingestion and normalization pipelines across clinical, claims, and operational datasets
- Develop technical documentation including architecture diagrams, system flows, and implementation roadmaps
- Build and support healthcare data exchange solutions leveraging FHIR R4, HL7 v2, CCDA, and X12 EDI standards
- Design and maintain FHIR-based APIs to enable secure, scalable data interoperability
- Ensure solutions meet regulatory and compliance standards including HIPAA, USCDI, and ONC mandates
- Support modernization efforts from legacy, document-heavy environments to modular, platform-based architectures
- Evaluate build vs. buy decisions and recommend appropriate technologies and platforms
- Collaborate with analytics teams to design data models that support reporting, analytics, and downstream insights
- Contribute to long-term platform strategy and architectural direction
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare data engineering, health IT, or related roles
- Hands-on experience with healthcare interoperability standards, including FHIR (required), HL7 v2, CCDA, and X12
- Experience working with EHR platforms such as Epic or Cerner
- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Python, Java, or C#)
- Strong SQL skills with exposure to NoSQL databases
- Ability to lead technical discussions and clearly communicate complex concepts across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Skills
- Strong expertise in healthcare interoperability and API-driven architectures
- Experience designing microservices and scalable data pipelines
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance and regulatory frameworks
- Ability to operate in complex, highly regulated environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Familiarity with federal or public healthcare data environments (preferred)
- Exposure to large-scale structured and unstructured healthcare datasets
- Experience supporting data platform modernization and transformation initiatives
