As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers building and operating the platforms that power our NEMT dispatching ecosystem. You will balance people leadership with technical judgment, coaching engineers, owning team delivery, partnering deeply with Product and UX, and ensuring our systems remain reliable, secure, and easy to evolve. You will set the bar for engineering excellence on your team, shape technical direction in partnership with Tech Leads and senior engineers, and create the conditions for your engineers to do the best work of their careers. This is a high-impact role that directly influences how millions of members experience transportation to critical medical appointments.
ResponsibilitiesLead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers across all levels, owning hiring, performance management, career development, and day-to-day operational health of the team.
Drive predictable, high-quality delivery: scope work with Product, sequence roadmaps, identify and remove blockers, and maintain healthy operational rhythms (planning, reviews, and retros).
Partner with Tech Leads and senior engineers to set technical direction, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and ensure designs meet our reliability, security, and HIPAA compliance bar.
Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, strong code review practices, automated testing, observability, incident response, and continuous improvement of the SDLC.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, UX, Data, and other Engineering teams to align on goals, dependencies, and integration points across our dispatching ecosystem.
Represent the team to leadership, communicate status, risks, and trade-offs clearly, and translate business priorities into focused technical execution.
Stay close to the work: review designs and PRs at a technical level, debug alongside the team when needed, remain credible as a hands-on engineering, and be trusted to make high-stakes technical calls.
QualificationsAt least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineers directly . You have shipped production systems in modern web and cloud stacks ( Node.js / TypeScript / React or comparable) and can engage credibly on architecture, code, and operations.
Demonstrated success leading a team to consistent, high-quality delivery, including hiring, calibrating performance, supporting career growth, and navigating difficult conversations with empathy and clarity.
Strong technical foundation in distributed systems and cloud-native architectures. Hands-on familiarity with React, TypeScript , NodeJS, Express, AWS ( Lambda , API Gateway , RDS , S3 , CloudWatch , Cognito , SQS / SNS ) and modern databases such as DynamoDB and PostgreSQL .
Experience operating high-availability production systems through: EKS, Kubernetes, CI/CD with GitHub Actions , Infrastructure as Code , observability tools, and a deep respect for security and data privacy. Prior exposure to HIPAA , PHI , or other regulated environments is a strong plus.
Excellent cross-functional communicator. You partner naturally with Product and UX, translate business needs into technical plans, and represent your teams work clearly to executives and peers.
