Job SummaryThe IT Systems Engineer is responsible for infrastructure support, technical planning, and implementation of computing and storage systems owned by South Central Regional Medical Center. This role includes installing and supporting system hardware and software, performing upgrades, managing patching and automation, monitoring system health, and collaborating with IT teams and vendors to ensure maximum uptime, security, and performance.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide evaluation, engineering/design, and implementation services for new products and technologies; Perform Level 3 escalation support for Desktop Support and Helpdesk; Manage daily production support; Perform patching and code deployments across all environments; Lead technology implementation and enhancement projects; Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting; Maintain enterprise backup and monitoring processes; Ensure compliance with SCRMC IT standards, HIPAA requirements, and best practices; Identify and implement automation opportunities using scripting; Research and recommend systems administration best practices; Close support requests in a timely manner; Perform other duties as assigned.
Professional ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate initiative and creativity in resolving complex technical issues; Participate in after-hours on-call rotation; Provide exceptional customer service; Communicate effectively with users on incidents and requests; Demonstrate ownership across multiple technologies; Work outside normal business hours as required for projects or on-call needs.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma required; Minimum of three (3) years of Information Technology experience; Working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure and networking principles; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Strong documentation skills.
Preferred QualificationsPrevious healthcare IT experience; Professional certification from Cisco, VMware, or Microsoft (or ability to obtain within six months); Detailed knowledge or certification in data center technologies; Some college or degree preferred.
Essential Skill CompetenciesVMware vSphere and VMware View VDI; Load balancers; Pure Storage; EMC Avamar and Data Domain; Microsoft Server (all roles and features); PowerShell scripting; Active Directory and certificate services; XenApp 7.5; SQL Server maintenance best practices; Group Policy management; Basic networking including VLANs, ports, firmware upgrades, NAT, and ACL configuration; Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; Understanding of HIPAA standards as they relate to IT operations.
Working ConditionsMay require after-hours work, on-call rotation, and extended work hours for projects; Collaboration with internal IT teams and external vendors; Occasional exposure to high-pressure operational issues.
