Job Description

Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid or remote. Hybrid means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business. The successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Mountain View Technical Center or Warren Technical Center 3x per week if located within 50 miles of this location. Remote candidates are still encouraged to apply.

The Role

We are the team where industrial design meets digital. As a Senior UX/UI Designer (Level 7), you will own and deliver complex UX/UI solutions for next-generation in-vehicle experiences within defined vehicle systems and programs. This role operates as a senior individual contributor who works independently with minimal guidance and exercises sound judgment on significant design decisions. You will partner closely with engineering, industrial design, and research to translate ambiguous requirements into high-quality, user-centered outcomes that ship. This role has meaningful impact across the function without enterprise-level strategy ownership.

What You'll Do

Design and deliver UX/UI solutions for vehicle systems and applications across multiple display configurations

Own complex interaction problems across controls, input modalities, navigation flows, and driving modes within defined product scope

Translate ambiguous requirements into clear designs, prototypes, and documented design rationale

Contribute to and refine interaction patterns in collaboration with other designers and cross-functional partners

Partner closely with engineering, industrial design, and research to integrate digital and physical experiences

Conduct and apply user research and usability testing to validate design decisions and inform iteration

Present design recommendations, trade-offs, and rationale to senior stakeholders to support alignment and execution

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree in Human Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Ergonomics, Product Design, Design Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

5+ years of experience designing digital interfaces with demonstrated UX and UI craft

Experience owning and delivering complex design initiatives as an individual contributor

Strong proficiency in Figma and standard design and prototyping tools

Demonstrated ability to solve non-standard design problems using independent judgment

Strong communication and presentation skills

Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, accessibility, and iterative development practices

Portfolio submission is required

If a candidate does not meet the required qualifications above, they cannot be hired for this position.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Advanced degree in HCI, Industrial Design, Ergonomics, Product Design, or a related field

Experience working on complex, system-level or multimodal digital products

Exposure to automotive, consumer electronics, or other safety-critical or regulated environments

Experience balancing exploratory design work with technical constraints, timelines, and feasibility considerations

Familiarity with 3D modeling, motion design, sound design, multimodal interaction and interactive prototyping

Skilled at navigating between blue-sky ideation and grounded execution, aligning design vision with engineering realities, timelines, and stakeholder priorities
