Director of Information Technology

Job Purpose

The Director of Information Technology provides strategic leadership and hands-on technical management to ensure the reliability, security, and innovative use of technology across the Supervisory Union and its member Districts. This role is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the hardware and software that makes up foundational technology systems in the Supervisory Union.

Essential Job Functions

Provides effective leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating processes so as to meet technology goals and objectives of the Supervisory Union.

Coordinates the development, refinement, and execution of the Supervisory Union technology strategic plan, involving all stakeholders and governance committees.

Maintains the systems (including, but not limited to servers, networking equipment, wireless access points, etc.) necessary to make technology reliable and seamless in the Supervisory Union and its Districts.

Manages and maintains school security and surveillance systems, including IP cameras, access control, and integrated safety technologies across all district buildings.

Oversees the implementation and administration of Nextpath and other core educational/operational platforms.

Leads cybersecurity resilience, including data privacy compliance (FERPA/HIPAA) and incident response.

Guides the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital tools to support teaching and learning and promote 21st-century skills.

Oversees and designs action plans for identified upgrade paths and projects for the Supervisory Union Technology functions.

Demonstrates and maintains an in-depth knowledge of all Supervisory Union relevant technology and network protocols.

Exhibits a high level of technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to support the daily function of the Supervisory Union IT functions.

Demonstrates the ability to communicate with a wide variety of Supervisory Union personnel with varying degrees of technological expertise.

Facilitates grant, bid, and e-rate processes when related to technology.

Assists the Business Manager in creating and maintaining a budget for technology at the Supervisory Union.

Tracks the Supervisory Union procurement of software licensing while keeping in compliance with all federal and state laws and Supervisory Union policies.

Ensures that Supervisory Union technology assets are tracked and maintained responsibly.

Explores new and emerging technologies and applies these technologies as appropriate across the Supervisory Union.

Assists users in the design and maintenance of schools and Supervisory Union websites.

Represents the Supervisory Union at regional and state technology meetings and work groups.

Responds to emergency situations outside the standard work schedule.

Required Level of Education & Experience

College degree or equivalent years of experience in the field.

Five (5) years in the field or related experience in the Technology industry.

Demonstrated professional experience in a technology leadership role.

Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Experience preferred in the following areas: VMware, Apple computers, Microsoft computers, Active or Open Directories, database support and administration, installation and support of network infrastructure and hardware, and Google Workspace.

Experience in educational environment desired, but not required.

Project management experience highly desirable.

Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) certification highly desirable.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of hardware, software, and networking technology.

Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively one-on-one and in front of/with groups.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Advanced organizational & management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Willingness to tackle challenging technical problems.

Advanced personal computer and software skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and HR information system(s).

Ability to tolerate stressful situations and maintain the proper decorum.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, agencies, general public, vendors, providers, and consultants.

Knowledge of Tyler Systems ADS preferable.

Tools/Technology Requirements

General office equipment, such as a phone, computer, and multifunctional devices.

Advanced knowledge of computer software, such as e-mail, calendar/scheduling, word processing, and database user interface and query software.

Salary:$85,000 to $115,000 Per Year
