Job Summary:

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust ETL solutions to extract, transform, and load data from a wide range of structured and unstructured sources. This role ensures seamless data integration and accessibility to support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives. Designs, develops, and manages database solutions by leveraging advanced T-SQL to create and maintain stored procedures, functions, and other database objects that support complex data operations and business requirements. Supports the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of Business Intelligence solutionsincluding reporting and analyticsunder the direction of the Manager of Business Application Development within ORIS. Utilizes expertise and knowledge of systems and services to perform responsibilities using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Workday, Tableau, Excel and other relevant tools. Works with data across multiple systems, like SQL Server, AWS Redshift, Workday, Huron and other solutions for efficient data retrieval, analysis, processing and management of large and disparate datasets.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer and information science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of experience relevant working experience, such as MS SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Tableau, Workday, Excel, SQL query execution, execution analysis & optimization, indexing strategies, REST based web services, and use of APIs and scripting techniques to automate processing.
  • 4 years of practical experience in creating intuitive, interactive, and effective reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Working knowledge in AWS and/or Azure data services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Workday reporting tools and modules, including Report Writer, Composite Reporting, and Advanced Reporting.
  • Must have strong analytical skills that allow for the development of data-driven reports. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively relate data to coworkers and clients.

Desired Education and Experience:

  • Masters or advanced degree in computer information science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Cloud computing services like AWS, Azure, Data Lake and Warehouse tools, Microsoft Power BI and .NET Framework.
  • Possesses or is pursuing an AWS and/or Azure certification.
  • Experience in Database Administration (DBA) skills for managing MS SQL Server, Data Analysis, Modeling and Profiling.
  • Working knowledge of Data security standards, web accessibility standards, application workflow design, automated testing and Source control tools.
  • Knowledge of Research Administration based processes and systems related to proposal and award management, responsible research practices, compliance, funding opportunity, etc.
  • Able to converse with a broad spectrum of people with different levels of technical proficiency.

Additional Information:

The Target Hiring Range for this position is $88,300-$115,350. The salary offer for this position may fall within this range based on the candidate's qualifications, internal equity, and the unit's available budget, which will be the primary determining factor.

This is a hybrid position, requiring residency in the state of Ohio by the time of start.
