Meter's mission and long term ambition
The internet runs the world-data centers, offices, manufacturing facilities, schools, etc., spend billions annually on computer networking to stay productive.
However, these networks are messy and brittle. Traditional networking companies only build one piece of the puzzle-either hardware, software, or operations-but never all three, leading to inefficient silos and slow changes. Network engineers-the lifeblood of the industry-are often left scrambling to fix issues, hand editing configs, guess-and-checking solutions, and worrying how the ever-increasing complexity of the system they manage will break.
Meter has spent the last decade vertically integrating the fragmented computer networking industry across hardware (power, routing, switches, security, wireless), firmware, operating systems, and real-world operations. By owning the full stack, we make it exceptionally easy for any business to have great networking, internet, and Wi-Fi. We believe people who build hardware and software should be the ones responsible for it. Our ambition is to evolve internet infrastructure into a utility.
This role is critical to Meter's success
Meter builds internet infrastructure from the ground up - hardware, software, and real-world operations - to make networking as reliable and effortless as electricity. As we scale to thousands of deployments and millions of connected devices, our cloud infrastructure needs to evolve with the business. We're entering a phase where uptime, observability, cost efficiency, and security are no longer table stakes - they're differentiators.
We're hiring an Infrastructure Engineer to lead the charge in hardening, scaling, and modernizing Meter's core infrastructure. This is a high-leverage role: you'll define the standards that keep our systems reliable and secure, lay down the foundations for internal tooling and developer experience, and directly enable product teams to build and ship faster. You'll partner with engineers across product, ops, and data to make sure Meter's infrastructure doesn't just support the business - it accelerates it.
You will have an impact by
- Owning and evolving Meter's cloud infrastructure across AWS using infrastructure as code to ensure repeatability and auditability
- Designing secure, reliable, and scalable systems for service orchestration, networking, data pipelines, and observability
- Partnering with product engineers to stand up new services, unblock data integrations, and build internal tooling that enables fast, safe deployment
- Implementing monitoring, alerting, and telemetry systems that give Meter confidence in system health at scale
- Introducing infrastructure practices that reduce toil, improve fault tolerance, and increase deployment velocity
- Laying down best practices for uptime, cost efficiency, and data security as we scale into more enterprise environments
- Supporting internal compliance and regulatory needs by building infrastructure that respects data boundaries, cold storage requirements, and PII handling standards
