JOB FUNCTION

The IITS Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the overall design and implementation of core IT infrastructure and security, including network infrastructure, physical and virtual server resources, storage systems, backup solutions, cloud services, VoIP systems, and broader technology resources for the college.

The Infrastructure Engineer will be designated as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and principal security analyst for campus IT resources, leading security initiatives to design and implement the overall IT security strategy for the campus. Responsibilities include developing IT security standards and policies, threat monitoring and response, ensuring regulatory compliance, and automated cybersecurity risk management solutions. This position will supervise and direct our infrastructure group. This group consists of our networking team, infrastructure specialist, system admin assigned to this group, and system admins from both our User Services and MIS teams as required.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS

Oversee the design and implementation of core IT network infrastructure and related network resources, including wired and wireless networks and network prioritization technologies

Oversee the design and implementation of core IT systems infrastructure, including physical, virtual, and cloud servers and storage systems

Works closely with members of the IITS Infrastructure Team to ensure campus IT infrastructure is regularly updated to patch security vulnerabilities

Monitors and maintains industry best practices to ensure efficient and secure use of IT resources

Oversee the design and implementation of the campus IT security strategy, including network security architecture, security policies, and security standards to protect IT resources

Oversee the design and implementation of user protection policies and procedures to minimize user risk

Oversee the designs and implementation of data loss prevention policies and procedures to meet regulatory standards

Supports, coordinates, and works with external auditors and compliance officers to implement security audits, vulnerability assessments, and other compliance-related areas

Serves on project teams within the division as required

Responds to support and maintenance needs that fall outside regular working hours

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree in information systems.

Minimum of five years of previous experience in an IT System or Network administration role

A strong understanding of core IT infrastructure including routing and switching, wireless systems, firewalls, physical and virtual server architecture, enterprise storage systems, and VoIP systems

A demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity standards and best practices in an enterprise environment

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all members of the campus community

Ability to understand complex challenges, develop and implement technology solutions based on user and project specifications

Comfortable working both independently with little supervision and collaboratively in a team environment

Experience with project management skills and gathering/documenting project specifications

Strong desire and aptitude to learn new technologies and skills as needed

Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment on multiple, diverse projects

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical office working conditions. Fast paced, high-energy environment. Some evenings and weekends are required throughout the year. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and telephone. Must be able to lift 20-25lbs on a regular basis.
