The Data Architect (Data Governance) position will be responsible for creating and managing consistent, uniform master data within WorldStrides systems. They will collaborate with business, operations, and technology stakeholders to use processes, workflows, and technologies to manage and ensure the quality and consistency of WorldStrides corporate and product related data assets. The Data Architect will report direcrly to the Enterprise Architect, located in Charlottesville, VA; however this position is available for remote work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop in-depth understanding of WorldStrides data structures and information content
Investigate, create, and maintain data flows, data content, data element definitions with a goal of enterprise Master data integration
Strong knowledge of Master Data, with technical implementation experience of data cleansing, de-duplication and management of “Golden Master Record”
Bring data management experience, including an understanding of concepts, practices, procedures and tools - providing strong analytical, innovative and creative problem-solving skills
Strong background and understanding of enterprise information management, including master data management (MDM), metadata, reference data, and data quality practices
Bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills (personal, written and presentation) and work cross-functionally with IT and non-IT staff
Technical breath in data profiling from different sources and determine whether and how data can support business and data requirements of its intended use
Technical understanding of data models, data standards, and business glossary
Develops & maintains common business definitions and metadata criteria for consistent metrics reporting across the enterprise
Collaborate with IT and business partners to identify data sources that will function as “sources of truth” and align data domains to authoritative sources of data
Tactical enforcement of Data Governance policies and rules
Researches new technologies while keeping up-to-date with technological developments in relevant areas of Data Governance, Master Data, and Data Quality
Partner with ESB integration engineers to help define the company Common Data Model
Skills and Experience
Solid foundation in data model concepts, master data management, operational process, SDLC, project management, data profiling, data cleansing/de-duplication processes. The ideal candidate for this opportunity will possess the following work experiences:
Previous experience leading data management initiatives (data profiling, improvement, accuracy, completeness, integrity, security, stewardship, and governance)
Proficient skills and knowledge of data quality tools, data quality disciplines and technologies to standardize and maintain control over master data
Knowledge and usage of Azure Data Catalog, SSIS, Master Data Services
Proficient with SQL
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
Strong decision making and analytical abilities
Knowledge of modeling conventions for both data (data models) and process (data flow diagrams and process models)
Ability to analyze data problems and determine solutions using process and creative problem solving
Ability to understand new technologies quickly
Roles in both data-related business and technology positions
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with executive level stakeholders
Must be able to incorporate the company’s long-term strategy into activities
Knowledge of Data Governance policies, processes, and organization
Policy, processes, and user documentation authoring
Ability to be a strong advocate for process and technology improvement
Ability to influence decision makers, drive consensus and broker solutions between parties with competing or potentially conflicting requirements
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the executive leadership team and business customers at all levels
Develops staff skills to enhance department effectiveness
Experience using Oracle and SQL Server databases required.
Experience with CRM systems a plus (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce etc.).
Strong experience with SQL.
Experience with ETL (ODI or SSIS a plus), data modeling
Working with Power BI and other Business Intelligence systems.
Experience creating and publishing datasets on open data platforms for consumption by both internal staff and customers.
Experience partnering with architects on design & architecture.
Experience with data warehousing, associated architecture, and warehouse implementation a plus.
Proven skills in database design with multidimensional modeling a plus.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to synthesize complex issues/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts.
Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous situations and across organizational boundaries.
Experience partnering ESB engineers is a huge plus.
Role Long Term Vision
Constructing a holistic view of the data infrastructure needed to run the business and collaborate with technology and business partners to incorporate that into their roadmap
Developing a long-term vision for creating a cloud-wide reporting and analytics infrastructure
Collaborating with the Data strategy team to define third party data acquisition strategy to support business needs
Designing the data ingestion architecture
Strategic planning and execution of all aspects of data architecture including establishment of current and future state architecture and transformational roadmap in alignment with business strategy
Role model technology-leadership by encouraging adoption of tools and solutions that solve for business in a cheaper and faster manner
Instituting a data architecture and governance discipline to advance rapid delivery of products and data insights
Contributes to enterprise data governance activities as needed; including policies and procedures
Hard Skills
10+ years of experience in Information Management
5+ years of experience in master data management (MDM), metadata, reference data, and data quality practices
3+ years of experience in Data Governance
